Detour To Destiny-Episode 2, Part 1

Yes, the long awaited Episode 2 is finally here. I am sorry it has taken so long but between my computer problems and being sick, this was the soonest I could get it posted. I am going to put it under a cut so as not to bombard f-lists. It will be several pages long as I took 172 pictures and had to try and get rid of some of them. I didn't realize that weddings were so complicated!

I would like to again thank Lord Dragonblood and Lady Darkfire of for the use of their wonderful houses and especially for the use of St. Ariella Cathedral, without which this wedding would not be possible. Anyway, without further ado, here it is......

The morning of the wedding had arrived and Paige was already exhausted. She had gotten up at 5 A.M. to start getting dressed. First she helped Paulette fix her hair and then she did her own. Midway through the curling process, Paige was beginning to wish she had chosen a different hairstyle. As she was finishing, Paulette commented at how beautiful she looked and that compliment made the tedious process worth all the work. When she had finally finished dressing and descended the stairs, Paige saw her brother Chase. He looked very uncomfortable in his tuxedo. She stifled a laugh and gave him a quick hug. The siblings had never been close but they were able to at least carry on a conversation. Chase sat down at the dining room table with a cup of coffee and Paige joined him on the opposite side of the table.


Out of the corner of her eye she noticed Riley standing in the front yard. He was not alone. A tall, well built man was standing with Riley and Paige could only see his back. Chase looked out the window and smiled. He didn't say anything to Paige, he just put down his coffee and got up out of the chair.


Paige watched her brother get up and head out the front door. She followed along and as she got to the porch she could see that Riley looked very distinguished, being already dressed in his wedding suit. The other man was also dressed for the wedding in a tuxedo that matched the one that Chase was wearing. The closer Paige got to Riley, the more she could see of the mystery man. From his profile, she could tell that he was strikingly handsome. She began to get nervous at the prospect of meeting Riley's companion.


Her heart began to beat out of her chest, her stomach was doing flip-flops and her palms were beginning to sweat. She stopped walking in an attempt to get herself in check. She wasn't a high school girl anymore but she sure felt like one. Paige had seen lots of gorgeous guys so she wasn't going to let this one get under her skin. She straightened up and finished the short walk to Riley's side.


Chase was on the opposite side of Riley than Paige was. She looked at Chase in an attempt to not meet the man's eyes as he looked at her. She could still see him. Her peripheral vision was very good. At least she had something to look at as she felt his commanding presence.


The mystery man turned toward her and began to stick out his hand as Riley introduced him to Paige. She tried to hide her shock as her mind reeled around the fact that this man was Riley's nephew! His name was Chris Jacobsen and he was standing in for his father Jim as best man. Jim, Riley's only brother, could not make the trip to Fidelity for the wedding as his business kept him living in Simadelphia. Chris lived less than a mile away from Paulette, so he was more than happy to fill in. That's what she heard him say anyway.


She raised her head to look him in the eye and nearly lost her balance. His eyes were the deepest shade of blue and his smile lit up his face. She was definately weak in the knees and she swallowed hard. Chris was by far the most handsome man she had ever met.


Before she knew what was happening Chris was leaning over, his full lips headed toward her hand. He had said something like...it was a pleasure to meet her, but the tingling sensation as his hand held hers made her deaf to everything around her. She looked down toward her hand and saw the most luxurious head of brown hair that she had ever seen. Her first instict was to run her hands through it but she stopped short of doing so.


His lips finally met her hand and Paige almost lost total control. She raised her hand in an attempt to steady herself as the tingling turned into lightning flashes coursing throughout her entire body. Chris was quite the gentleman. His parents had definately raised him right. Paige could not help herself, she was smitten!


In a futile attempt to look cool, she brought her hand to her chest and murmered a quick greeting back to Chris. Paige looked beyond Chris for a second and saw that Chase had a satisfied look on his face. He must have known this would happen. Paulette had pictures of Chase and Paige all over the house so Chris had to have seen one of them before today.


Paige looked Chris directly in the eye as he lifted his head back up. He seemed to be as transfixed by her as she was by him, especially since he still held onto her small hand with both of his larger ones. She smiled at him and for a moment they were in their own little world. Chase had to ruin the moment with a loud coughing noise.


Paige thought that he was probably waiting to be introduced also, so she jerked her hand away from Chris' and turned quickly toward Chase. He still had that smirking half smile on his face and for a moment she wondered if she had been set up. Paulette was always trying to be a matchmaker for her children and this would have been the perfect opportunity for her intervention. Her mother wanted grandchildren, and neither Paige nor Chase had even contemplated marriage up to now.


As she was to soon find out, Chase and Chris seemed to already know each other. They started chatting like they were the best of friends! Now it was perfectly clear. Not only had Paulette intervened, but Paige was sure that Chase had a hand in Chris being there too. She turned her head away and staightened her back, trying her best to be angry with them both.
